Garburn Trail Race & English Junior Fell Championship 4/6/06

Garburn Trail Race (continued from David's post below)

John Hodgson takes up the story at Windermere.

“I was at the finish to see two tired runners come in. I took a photo which shows up an anatomical mystery. I always thought that the knee was a hinge joint, not a ball and socket! (Sorry Mike).

English Junior Fell Championship

My main reason for being at Windermere was to witness the efforts of our Junior club runners. There were all four Till boys running, along with Melanie, plus Jonathon and James Knox who run for Helm Hill but have Dallam School connections.

It was a long day for all concerned, but enjoyable.

The results are not available as yet but if you go onto the Fell Runners Association link to the Juniors section you will eventually find them.

I recall that Joe (the youngest Till) was 5th under 8
Ben about 7th under 12
Sam about 11th under 14
Alex about 5th under 16.

All good efforts under the hot conditions and in a top class field.

Then there was Melanie. Her build up to this race was:

27/5/06- 1st to finish Hutton Roof Fell race combined u16 and u14 boys and girls.

30/5/06- 8th to finish from 82 seniors in the Rombalds Moor Fell Race and 1st lady in a new record time….see for yourself!

1/6/06- 2nd to finish and 1st girl in the Killington Sports u14 race.

At Windermere she duly came 3rd overall and 1st girl in the Championship race.
As she has won the first 4 of the six race series she is now the English u14 Girls Fell Racing Champion 2006.

Congratulations Melanie, we were never really in doubt that you were going to do it. "

Thanks for this contribution John.
