Kendal Winter League - Elterwater 25/3/07

John Hodgson writes: Dallam's Juniors were at their best in this final counting race of the series.

Where to start? I will leave the best till last. In the first race, James Knox ( Helm Hill ), already had an unassailable lead having won all his seven races so Dale Sutton and Ben Till had to `fight` it out for second and third places. Normally it would have been a difficult prediction but on the day Dale went off faster at the start and managed to stay there. Well done to both. Wilf Goodfellow ran well to come in 10th.

In the Under 14`s Dallam`s strong contingent of girls were due to take the major honours; Melanie won her 33rd consecutive race in this series and now starts the defence of her England U 14 Fell Racing title with a race at The Wrekin, near Shrewsbury this weekend.
Robin Goodfellow was in a battle to hold off the challenge of clubmate Jane Gill whose efforts reflect the measure of her progress and of Robin`s determination not to be passed. Reanne Harvey showed her usual determined effort to finish fifth.
Both Sam Till and Dean Sutton were running for points to finish in the top six and both ran good races.

The Under 17`s race was the best of the series; especially for Dallam. We provided both winners; Alex Till for the boys and Cathy Gill in the girls. For Alex, it was his sixth win with the last four being in consecutive races, but Cathy was winning for the first time. Both had to make up lots of ground on their rivals at the top of the climb but that is where they excell and it made for an exciting finish for the spectators to see them `eat`up the gap to achieve their success.

At the end of the proceedings, Dallam RC presented Helm Hill Runners with a card thanking them for all their efforts over the years in promoting this series of races. There was also a `gift` handed over which was gratefully received.
PS. note the Sedbergh race is on a Saturday not Sunday.
