Alex's Uphill Successes

From John Hodgson.

Alex duly won his International vest (and tracksuit) by representing England in the International Fell Race in Susa, Italy on June 24th.
Eight nations competed in the race and in a field of 61 runners, he finished 28th. This was disappointing by his standards finishing fourth of the English quartet, but in context, was 5th of his age group which has made him more determined to challenge and hopefully perform better next year. The hospitality and comradeship of all the participating teams made it a memorable experience nevertheless. Hannah Bateson, of Lancaster and Morecambe, won the U16 Girl`s race.
One week later and it was time for the English Junior Uphill Championships at Ilkley where there was keen competition from runners from all parts of the country bidding fof the much coveted polka dot jersey awarded to the winners.
Brothers Ben, in the U12`s, finished in the top six; Sam, in the U14`s,outside the top ten, and then came Alex. He was able to show everyone present his outstanding ability of running uphill claiming prizes galore including the one he wanted most of all. Congratulations Alex from all of us at Dallam.
