A new course aimed at people involved in leading groups of endurance athletes of varying abilities is coming to the North West.

The Endurance Leaders Award will be held in Manchester on Saturday 1st September 2007 and there are still places available to NW club coaches. The course aims to equip candidates with improved leadership skills, studying modules including leadership philosophies, fitness programmes, health and safety, stretching, warm ups and cool downs.

The course has been successfully run recently in Yorkshire and one of the candidates on the course, Roger Nicholls said:

“The course was well presented and enjoyed a healthy mix of classroom and practical sessions, we had three leaders attending the day which now gives the club a total of six leaders. We also intend to encourage five more potential leaders to attend the next available course.”

Roger had no doubts as to how the course will aid his club in the future.

“The course has opened our minds to new ideas, particularly for example around stretching techniques. It will help us to continue our structured sessions and we now hope to start a beginners group through our new leaders, taking the athletes all the way to the Great North Run.”

“The course brought together leaders from all walks of life. One group wanted to increase the number of black and ethnic minority people taking part in sessions. We all enjoyed the camaraderie and of the course,” he added. “I would recommend this course without a doubt for all potential group leaders.”
