Been there, done that and got the swimming cap

Barnesy's summary of his events for the September Charity Challenge.

It was never about the times or the placings but more a matter of getting through three successive weekends in September and completing the four events. They all held their own challenge not least the Buttermere Triathlon on the 14th. 176 lined up for the swim, the bit I was not looking forward to! Deasey shook my hand and gave words of encouragement "you're going to get battered!"

The next day saw another early start and off to Newcastle for the Great North Run. Not a huge challenge in itself but following a 'Lakeland Triathlon' I was glad to reach the finish line and get home with the first weekend 'in the bag'.

The following weekend saw another early start on the Saturday and the Hardmoors 60 running from Guisborough to Filey along the Cleveland Way coastal path. The Race Director it would seem was a little less than accurate with the distance which for me at least ended up to be 66 miles, losing my way at around the halfway point!

So it was off to Germany the following weekend for the Berlin Marathon on Sunday 29th. Legs seized up at about 14 miles which made it a painful end to my charity challenge. Got round in under 4 hours but certainly would not recommend a 66 mile run the Saturday before as ideal preparation for a marathon! Great track and a great city. Running through the Brandenberg Gates at the finish would have to be the highlight of the four events not least because I knew it was all over!

To date we've raised £705 for MS Society, £173 of which will go to the local branch.

3 T Shirts, 2 medals and a swimming cap made it well worth the effort!
