KWL Elterwater and the Haworth Hobble

Sunday`s event at Elterwater drew a smaller Dallam entry than normal due to various exertions on the previous day (writes John Hodgson). The Till, Gill and Goodfellows were representing Cumbria at Woolaton Park, Nottingham at the National Cross Country Championships whilst other elder members went to the Haworth Hobble ( 30+ miles ) in Yorkshire. Whatever they did there were plenty of `walking wounded` about.
This meant that `fresh as a daisy` Lizzie Goodfellow had a great opportunity to `pan` the opposition, but decided instead to let everyone have a little start on her, then stop soon after to wave to her friends before getting on with the business of her U 12`s race; and she didn`t finish last. What a talent!
Big sister Robin and Reanne legged it uphill in the next race which was a steep up and down affair. Robin maintained her winning sequence but hurt herself in the process whilst Reanne completed her run with her usual gutsy performance.
Adam Jeffs was the only Dallam runner in the U17`s keeping well up with the field. He finished close behind Melanie in the end, which not many seniors could do I suspect, so it was a splendid effort.
Dennis, Ruth, Dawn and Emma (making her debut) mainly enjoyed the route up to Silver Howe with breath-taking scenery but Emma`s lack of studded shoes made the descent one to forget rather than to remember.
Don`t forget that Junior presentation night for the Winter League runners is after the`sausage-sizzle` on April 2nd. Well done everyone.

Howarth Obble
From Ray..
Quite a pleasant run with non of the dragster type rip snorting speed
of the KWL, as typified by that young track ripping upstart Hodgson,
though arduous just the same. Plenty of time to plod and stare at
things like Geese and Windmills whilst contemplating the state of the
universe.

A limited showing from Dallam, with just Steve Jeffs and myself
plodding about. Walshes did the job, but are not really suited for
the event, being mainly rocky trails.
