Dallam Running Club – Cross Bay Run

new date - Sunday 8th October 2023.

Here are the updated details for the rearranged Cross Bay run on Sunday 8th October.

I’m writing to let you know that there’s a new date for the recently postponed cross bay run. I have been in contact with BSAR and they are able to put a team together to see us across the bay on Sunday 8th October. This would mean catching the 11.18 am train from Arnside station (cost still £2.55) and all other arrangements are the same as previously conveyed.

I do hope you can make this re-arranged date – it would be grand to share the crossing with as many like-minded runners as possible. If you know of anyone who is keen to run but wasn’t on the original list they are more than welcome to turn up and run and stuff a £10 note in my hand at some point on the day!! All monies go to BSAR.

If you can run with us on the 8th just email me a “yes”.

If the new date is inconvenient, then let me know and I will refund your £10 to your bank account (I can get sort code and account # from our Dallam account but would you send your full account name so I can process refunds more effectively). Any money unclaimed will be donated to BSAR.

General info.

We will be guided across the sands by Bay Search and Rescue. They will meet us at the foreshore under Humphrey Head at 5.10 pm. One rescue unit will guide us out across the sands to the River Kent. We wade this crossing and a second bay rescue unit will guide us the rest of the way to New Barns beach. We will then run the mile back into Arnside.  The Bay Search and Rescue vehicles will guide us over the sands but we should run with a small rucksac/bumbag containing anything you might need during the crossing.

Details for the Run.

I suggest we car share as much as possible and leave vehicles at Arnside. We all need to be at Arnside Station to catch the 11.18 train to Kents Banks Station. It costs £2.55 (Off Peak Single) – You need to buy tickets on the platform at the ticket machine – so a debit card is best.

We all get off at Kents Bank and have a pleasant warm up run of 2 miles along the foreshore and over to the beach below Humphrey Head. Here we meet the Bay Rescue units and start the crossing. I envisage this to be about 6 miles. Total run for the night will be about 9.5 miles at an easy pace with several “gather-up” stops. The wade across the Kent should be thigh deep.  After arriving at New Barns Cove we will have about a mile to run to get back into Arnside and so to our cars and warm, dry clothes.

What to bring.

It’s October, it’s the Lakes, it includes water so think a little about what to wear and bring.

Don’t wear best trainers but bear in mind we are running on uneven foreshore for about 2 miles at the start. Bring a small rucksac/bumbag with a spare warm top, a lightweight cagoul/waterproof and maybe a drinks bottle and snack. Camera/phone is useful as the run can be very photogenic. Don’t forget a card for the train ( and for a beer at the end!!) . If weather looks sunny maybe some sun cream and sunglasses.

How to get a place.

The cost is £10 per person for the crossing.

ALL MONIES COLLECTED WILL BE DONATED TO THE BAY SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM.
