A hat-trick for Melanie and 5 in a row for Hazel
"This last weekend certainly showed the girls of Dallam putting one over the boys.
On Saturday in the Fairfield Horseshoe race,Hazel finished first lady (44/251) for the fifth consecutive race putting a lot of improvement down to her London Marathon experience (most people go backwards, not forwards, after one of those!)
On Sunday at St John's in the Vale,Melanie took on the boys and the girls of her U14 age-group and led the race for the first half mile or so.The climb was long and steep, but she keeps going, how? I don't know! She finished 7th overall and beat her nearest female rival by over a minute. Her next race is at Elleray School Windermere on Sunday 4th June. A win there and she is crowned England U14 girls champion. She is in line to run for England in a Home International event to be held in Ireland in October.Who is organising the mini-bus?
Alex Till, the only pace-maker we have for Melanie, came third in his U16 boys race and has three races left to accumulate points to see if he can peg back the leaders in the boys championships."

Since publishing this post I've acquired a new printer with a scanner facility,so I've added these photos which John gave me.
I think that they are from Melanie's 1st win?

Melanie goes for the hat-trick
"Dallam's International Junior fell runner Melanie Hyder is going for a hat-trick of successes in this year's English U14 Girls Championship this weekend (21st May).
So far this outstanding youngster (just 12 year's old) has won races at Ilkley and Telford.
Not only can Melanie give the best boys of her own age group a fright ,but senior club runners can't stay with the pace she sets either".
Good Luck Melanie!
More info about these races ,which I have received from Steve Fletcher of Cumbria Athletics.
"The second race of the series is at Bram Crag, St. John's in the Vale, near Keswick (GR319214) this Sunday. The races are also part of the English Junior Championship series so there should be a good turnout (for the last two years there's been over 150 runners).

The cakes are usually excellent. There's also the senior Helvellyn race at 12:00 so ther'll be loads of runners around."

Club runs from Nether Kellet and Warton
There were good turn outs at both, the weather helped.
The Nether Kellet route took us over the fields and down nearly to Lancaster, with a different way back. The Morris Dancers were performing outside The Limeburners.
The Warton run went up through Hyning Wood , across to the Canal and back alongside the River Keer.
I've lived in the area for some time now but a lot of the paths were new to me.
Dave Hodges is having a "Jacob's Joint"(his words) after the run from Bare on Wednesday 7th June.
Pete and Judy Burrow are having their BBQ at Holme on Wednesday 12th July.
I'll be adding these ,and more ,to the events list.
