Kendal Winter League 2016

From Debbie:
The Kendal Winter League has now started, organised by Helm Hill Runners
This is a local series of fell races that take place nearly every Sunday through till April from different locations.
We usually get a good turn out of Dallam juniors and seniors and it really is a great family event.
Junior races are in the categories U12's, U14's and U17's and start at 12pm, registration is from about 11am and costs £1 per race. You need to complete a consent form before being issued with a number that lasts for the whole series.
If juniors complete 5 races they win a prize at the end and a ranking in the league table.
(Seniors have to complete 7 races and it is £3 per race)
The U12 race usually lasts about 10 mins. U14's race about 15 mins and u17's about 20 mins. Conditions can be quite wintry and it is advisable to wrap up well with warm layers. Sometimes the organisers insist on the juniors running in a waterproof jacket. Some choose to carry a bum bag with hat and gloves and waterproof trousers too but this is up to the individual, although good practice to get into. It is advisable to wear studs or fell shoes as courses are often muddy.
(Seniors often have to carry full body cover and hat and gloves)
Take plenty of warm clothes for afterwards too as hanging around for Mams and Dads to finish can take a while! A flask of hot choccie is a great idea.
Any other questions see Debbie or John at Monday night training sessions.
